My phone sucks, Shoshana doesn't, and more !!!

Hey there -
Well the week hasn't started off as well as I would have hoped. Actually, my week has been pretty fuckin' crappy to be honest with you. Let's get all the negative, and then we will talk about the positive. First, I have no ceiling in my apartment. Literally. I may have mentioned in a previous blog, that there was a gas leak in my apartment building last week, so Con Ed turned off all hot water and gas in the building. Only yesterday, Monday, did the hot water get turned back on, but as far as turning the gas back on, they have had to rip open our ceiling, and put in a new pipe. This will last until Friday, when they will close up the ceiling, with the new pipe, and give us some lovely gas, for me to make tea on my stove. Then, this morning, my phone broke ..AGAIN !!! Out of the blue, it decided it didn't want to turn back on, and so, now im mourning my phone with lots of saddness. I won't have a new replacement phone until Friday. This is the EIGHTH time my phone has broken on me. Warning: Don't buy a Treo650. Oh, and more bad news, 'Say Goodbye' was pulled from Lauren Kennedy's upcoming CD. I hope to be able to include it on my CD, though, since it's already been fully recorded. We shall see. I was really looking forward to being a part of this project, since I have been working my ass off to be taken seriously in this city, and thought this may get the ball rolling. Alas, it has been pulled, and that is life. You win some, you loose some.

On a positive note, Shoshana Bean was really brilliant last night at Joe's Pub. Sometimes you can't believe you are friends with people who are so incredibly talented. Of course, it's not just about the talent, but last night it was. Her new material is ready for the radio. She looked sexy, ready, and her voice didn't let down for one minute. I couldn't have been more proud. (Ps. Nice to meet you last night, Kate).

Well, that seems to be all. Life has really slowed down since finishing the CD. I can't believe it's done. I was holding back on releasing it, because I thought about releasing it when Lauren's CD was released, for an extra push, but now ...that isn't happening, and so expect the CD to be released very soon.

A Nice Getaway ...

Hey Everyone -
So, on Wednesday, we officially mastered the cd, and after two and a half months of working non-stop, Tara and I set out to the Hamptons to start answering questions within the Piece script. We worked Thursday and Friday, and then Saturday morning went to 'Super Saturday’, which is a huge charity event in the Hamptons, where top designers donate some incredible clothes and products, all to raise money for Cancer research. Tickets to get in costs around $2,000.00, and it's the who's who of the Hamptons. Of course, I don't have $2,000.00, mind you, and so I was lucky too have gotten an extra ticket from Tara's mom. I bought some hot new outfits, and some new sneakers, and a new bag (which, was so needed, as I've had my old over the shoulder bag since the 1776). We ran into the likes of Bernadette Peters, Kelly Ripa and Mandy Moore, and when I say we ran into them ...I mean ...I took the last size 32 shorts at the Nautica spot, which Kelly Ripa wanted for her husband Mark. I could see everyone trying to find that size 32 that was just there.... and now, resting in my hands. That being said, I wore them last night, and they looked very cute on me ;)
Speaking of last night. Tara's mom ALSO scored us two tickets to an exclusive concert with Dave Matthews. Again, another high end event, with every celebrity you can think of roaming the grounds. The venue fit about 1,000 people, and everyone was sitting in lawn chairs, listening to Dave Matthews, acoustic with his guitar. We sat next to Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider, but I was more excited that Joan Allen was two feet in front of us.
In addition, we went out on wave runners, and ate, ate, ate.... I am as poor as a boy can be, and don't ever get the chance to live the glamorous life, but sometimes, after working hard non-stop, it's nice to be spoiled.
We are heading back today, so I can go pick up my pup at my moms, and then, back to reality. I work at the bar till 4am tonight, my roof in my apartment was torn apart due to a gas leak (i've been told we haven't had hot water or heat for over five days, still), and back to eating bread and water. Reality always comes back to kick you in the ass, doesn't it? ;)
I hope to see some of you at Shoshana's show at Joes Pub tomorrow night ...Tara is going tonight. She will be amazing, i'm sure. Hope you are all well. Best, SA

Harry Potter ... Boys ..MNNV

Ok, I won't be embarrassed to say, that I waited in line for the new Harry Potter book last night. It's the end of a series of an incredible journey, and I am so sad to come to the last page. Thankfully, I am only on page 110, and have over 600 pages still to read. Good times.

Boys are strange. I won't ever understand them. Yes, I am a boy. Yes, I am strange, as well. I will never understand me. Yet, I am still boy crazy, and ready for a relationship, again, whenever it is ready to find me.

This Monday, come celebrate another excited 'New Voices' with us. Here is all the information:

The "Monday Night, New Voices" series at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre will continue July 23.

The 7 PM concert will spotlight the work of songwriters Ilene Reid and Michael Heitzman. Their songs will be performed by five "New Voices": Doug Thompson, Kate Tomlinson, Skie Ocasio, Morgan Paige Fluss and Emily Shoolin. Rena Strober, who was seen in the original Broadway production of Les Misérables, will host.

Barbara Anselmi will be the musical director for the latest edition of New Voices, which was launched by composer-producer Scott Alan to "showcase some of today's brightest new talent in New York."

Rena Strober was seen in Les Misérables on Broadway and My Life with Albertine and Theda Bara and the Frontier Rabbi Off-Broadway. She appeared in the role of Tonyain in the La Jolla Playhouse production of Zhivago, and her other theatrical credits include Babes in Arms, Bat Boy and Barnum.

Ilene Reid and Michael Heitzman collaborated on the musicals Vices and Bingo.

The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is located in Manhattan at 16 Christopher Street. There is a $12 music charge and a two-drink minimum. For reservations call (212) 255-5438 or visit theduplex.com.

Positive Energy ...

I am trying to put out some positive energy into the world. Ya know, like it says in the secret. (I know, the secret is so four months ago. I am behind in my studies). Anyhow, I woke up this morning, and decided that I need to think with a more open attitude, and not always think the worst, and even more so, over think every little situation. In the end, everything will happen the way that it is suppose to happen, and putting out bad energy is not going to help. Soooo, positive thinking, positive energy.

Now, as I write this, there is a 20 inch pipe esplosion near Grand Central Station. See what some positive energy can do ? ;) Thankfully, no serious injuries, and it is NOT terror related.

So, the cd is almost mastered, and is sounding amazing. If you go to my myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/scottalanmusic), I am going to slowly start putting up photos from the studio and possible CD booklet shots. I'd love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to comment.

I have to go work Karoeke night at my bar in an hour. What should I sing tonight ? Maybe my classic 'On the Wings of Love ?' ... Hmmm ... so good, right ?

I have had some bad anxiety for the past week and a half. I think everything going on in my life has been creating this rapid heartbeat, soooo ...positive energy. Send it my way, please !!!! ;-)

I hope you are all doing well. Today was one of those random 'everyone is buying sheet music' days, which is fantastic. Keep it coming. I love knowing your out there singing the material.

Ok, wishing you all the best ...xo -SA

Catching up ...

Hey there -
Just playing a small amount of catch. I have a small cold, and the night off, so it is allowing me to catch up on emails, and tv, and everything I have missed since starting this cd project. I am happy to report that all the instruments and vocals have been finished for the cd as of a few hours ago, which is good, cause I have NO more money. LoL. Now, we will start mixing and getting everything ready to be mastered. I can't wait to get this out to you. I am really proud of the work, and the music, and I am looking forward to doing some promotional concerts for the cd as well. I still dont know exactly HOW I will be getting it out to the public, but there is a lead or two that I am working on, so we shall see. Sadly, my phone broke last night, so, everything will have to wait until I get a new one.
I saw Xanadu again on Saturday night, and loved it even more this time around then when I saw it at the dress rehearsal, which means a lot of work has been done for the better. I will be attending the opening night tomorrow as well, so just resting up for a fun night at the theatre, and some partying after, to help celebrate the accomplishments of Tara, and some friends in the cast.
That seems to be all. Iam trying to not be as personal as I have been in the past. I know many have noticed, since you've emailed me about it ... oy !!!
Ok, time for a nice little nap with the pup. Hope your all having a great day. Best, SA

Look Time, No Talk ...

Hey there -
This will be a very short post, because I don't really have that much to say. Many have emailed me, asking why I have removed the information from my website regarding 'Piece' debuting at the Actors Express Theatre in Atlanta. I can only speak on what I have been told: The artistic director whom was bringing Piece to the theatre decided to end his position with the company, and was replaced by another artistsic director, whom decided it best for the theatre, not to bring out a new musical that was about a woman and her mother. Supposedly, a musical of this nature is not a 'selling show.' Instead, they are putting on Altar Boyz. I find this to be a strong statement on behalf of a theatre company that claims on there website to be " Atlanta's gutsiest and most vital theatre company.' Situations of this nature do not end a show. Though I admit I have walked away out of frustration before, I will not leave walk away until there is no where else to turn. There are many places to turn as of now, and we all look forward to bringing it to you, with a theatre that believes in new work, and believes that a musical about the love between a woman and her mother, is a 'selling show.'

On a side note, all of the vocals have officially been recorded for my debut cd, and I couldn't be more excited about the outcome. As we get closer to the official release date, I will announce more of whom will be on the cd, and the tracklisting. Until then, I will keep you guessing ;)

That seems to be all. I am currently putting together the finishing touches on the next 'New Voices' concert on July 23rd, and will update you with that this week.

I hope you are all well. Only the Best, SA
