Hey Everyone ...

Hey there. I hope you are all well. I am having a wonderful day off today, and it's been so nice to just be here alone, listening to music online, downloaded more songs that I should, and replying to as many emails as possible (I will get back to everyone ...I promise...I am a few weeks behind, and I do apologize ...It's very not like me, but it's a busy time that I am so thankful for). I also received an amazing treat today, which was Shoshana's performance of 'Live out Loud' from Lippa's concert at Ars Nova a few back. I had mentioned at my resent show that at that particular performance I first heard of Shoshana, and then set out to make her sing my music, and listening to the clip (ps. You can hear me screaming in the background ..very funny), it's obvious why I fell in love with her in the first place. Ohhhh, and Speaking of Lippa, I am so excited that I have been invited to see 'The Little Princess' tomorrow evening (while most of you will be at that incredible Gershwin Benefit ...ENJOY IT !!! ) and I can't wait. Julia Murney and Will Chase are the leads ... It's only an hour performance, if I'm correct, at the Dodger spaces, as part of the NAMT festival. Prior, I will have four incredible woman singing 'Never Never Land' at the showcase for the opening party; Sara Kramer, Adinah Alexander, Kate Wetherhead and Julie Foldesi. All my beautiful 'Monday Nights, New Voices' woman (with the addition of Adinah, who is so talented), and since I have yet to be at any of the rehearsals, I am looking forward to hearing it at tomorrows rehearsal.

I saw my adorably cute friend Tim last night from California, and with his co-worker, we went and saw 'Lennon.' I have to say, I can't get the song 'Grow Old with Me' out of my head, and have downloaded every version on iTunes ... I know there is no planned cast recording, but I would love to own Julie's version ..Its stunning ... I use to dream about marrying Tim ..no joke ... We all have that one person you can't really replace in terms of holding a special moment and place in your heart, and Tim is that guy for me. It was so nice having him here. We have both really grown in life and friendship, and it's always nice to have him here. One day he will recognize how special he is on his own, but till then, I will keep telling him.

Yesterday was a long day, with our EPA's ... They resume Monday and Wed., and I have to say, I may be staying home for those ... I love hearing talent, but I wanted to call everyone back ...Someone would smile at me, or acknowledge me and I was like "I like her ...Lets give her the role." So, I think I should stay home before I offer 50 woman four different roles ....For those who have never been to an EPA, or sat in on one, they are VERY interesting ...Push aside all the incredible talent, and you have some ...Well ...Eager performers .... I had actually never been to the Equity building before ...It was fascinating ...People in every corner singing 'I know the Truth' (which was one popular song) or reading through there planned audition for one of the four shows auditioning ... Of course, Papermills 'Midsummer Nights Dream' was the most popular line around yesterday, and I must say, it was rather touching watching people sit around for hours, going from one audition to the next ... They spend all day there, hoping for that one break ...It really was interesting ... Which, again, is why I must stay away and leave the casting for the professionals ... Though I may drop in prior too our MNNV ...
I hope you can all make it out for another special Monday Nights new voices at 7pm at The Duplex, featuring Lauren Thomas, Michael Buchanan, and featuring Brian Nash as musical director. These kids are so talented ...Just wait ..Plus, its only $10 to get in .... I hope to see you all there ... On Tuesday I will announce our new cast for our MNNV on October 10th ...Our composer is a LEGEND and I cant wait to announce it .... I am so excited ...6The news will get lots of 'Applause' ...Ok, that's all ..I am going to go now ...I hope your all enjoying your weekend ...I think I may head to bed ...so exciting ..I haven't been to bed before 4 am in over a month ...xo -SA

About Time ...

I haven't written a serious post in some time now. Everything I have posted about has been a mini press release in the past few weeks, so I guess it's time to check in and say hi. I am watching my puppy sleep next to me, and loving him. After a meeting this morning, and dropping off some sheet music, I decided to take a few hours to shut off my cell phone and just relax. I got a manicure and a pedicure, I saw the new movie 'Just Like Heaven' and then treated myself to a nice dinner. I must say, I am a wonderful date, and enjoyed myself. I may just see me again. Seeing 'Just Like Heaven,' a corny, dramatic, predictable movie that made me cry, by myself, may not have been the best thing, since I was sitting next to these two men holding hands who kept whispering 'I Love You' every five seconds. I wanted to yell at them and say "Either tell me you also love me, or shut up." I then came home, and watched the Emmys. Always fun. I feel like they are the same every year, but I still watch them. Either I just like them, or I have no social life and never have anything better to do with my time. Hmmm. No answer. Other then that, much is good, minus my headache I have had for three days straight. Allergies suck. I am gearing up for the next MNNV, which, as I reported earlier, will feature two voices, seeking representation. Michael Buchanan and Lauren Thomas will be the two voices, and I look forward to the evening. It will be musically directed by Brian Nash, and should be a wonderful night of music and belting. Ohhh, and who saw Shoshana on the Soul Train Awards ? Um, incredible, right ? Orgasmic. I *heart* her. She is a super star. Also, who is going to the big benefit this Sunday ? I hear it is going to be something else, so get your tickets now ...I, sadly, have a prior engagement, but I can't wait to hear all about it from Schele.

So, I wont have one day off for about two months, as we gear up for our workshop of 'Piece.' I am already tired just thinking about it, but very excited by the opportunties being presented. I can't wait until there is a true production up, so all my friends and family and fans of the show, can see what it is i'm so passionate about. I can only hope, in the end, that it is worth the wait.

Thoughts ...

Well, today there was a rehearsal this afternoon for tomorrow nights Monday Nights, New Voices evening, and let me say, I dont know how we do it, but we do ..This evening's talent just keeps getting better and better, and tomorrow night is no exception. Everyone of the performers are stars, and I can't wait for you to hear them. Of course, being in the company of someone like Stephen Flaherty doesn't hurt the evening either. What an honor to have him take part in tomorrow nights festivities. He is a legend of the theatre and we are honored.

As for the benefit, I got word from Kerry Butler tonight that she would be singing one of my FAVORITE songs tomorrow night, from the musical 'Smile,' called Disneyland. I can't think of anyone more perfect to sing it then she. The lineup is remarkable, and I just realized that everyone has been apart of 'MNNV' as either a host or a performer, and so it holds even more of a special moment for me. Remember, the 9:30 benefit has NO admission and NO drink minimum. Just come to hear great music and talent and help us raise money for Victims of Katrina through The Red Cross.

Lastly, I have recieved many emails regarding the Equity EPA's that went out for 'Piece' on Friday. I can now say openly, Piece will have its first official Workshop in New York, with rehearsals starting October 17th and performances ending November 4th, at The Duke on 42nd Street. As far as anything else, I can't comment as of now, as it wouldn't be official, but no cast has been announced, and auditions start next week. We are all very excited, and I can't wait to keep you updated. Tara, my writing partner, will be keeping a journal about the workshop daily on the new piece website (which should be making its premiere any day now), and so look forward to that. MNNV and Katrina Benefit - September 12th

On Monday, September 12th at 9:30, some of Broadway's best will join producer Scott Alan at the Duplex (61 Christopher Street) to raise funds for Ten-in-Ten, a program which aims to raise $10,000 dollars in 10 days for the American Red Cross. The money raised from September 6-15 will be matched by corporate sponsors and donated to the American Red Cross.

Scheduled to appear at the Duplex are Kerry Butler (Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray), Felicia Finley (Aida, The Life), Sebastian Arcelus (Rent), Marty Thomas (Wicked, "Star Search"), Rashad Naylor (Hairspray), Jenny Powers (Little Women, Bounce), Lauren Thomas (Monday Nights, New Voices), Sara Schmidt (Jersey Boys, Brooklyn), David Reiser (Good Vibrations), Nikki Renee Daniels(Nine, Aida), Natalie Joy Johnson(Bare), and Julie Garnye (Hair, Chess concerts), who is also the founder of the Ten-in-Ten relief fund.

There is no cover and no drink minimum. Those planning to attend the concert are asked only to bring their checkbooks for donations. The concert will follow this Monday's edition of Monday Nights New Voices, the series that pairs up-and-coming performing talents with established composers, lyricists and stars such as Stephen Schwartz, Andrew Lippa and Sutton Foster. The 7 PM concert will be hosted by Finley, soon to be seen in the new Broadway musical The Wedding Singer. Among those scheduled to perform are Mamma Mia!'s Sara Kramer, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee's Kate Wetherhead, Little Women's Julie Foldesi and Jersey Boys' Michael Longoria as well as Ellyn Marsh and Charly Seamon. Ragtime and Dessa Rose composer Stephen Flaherty will also be part of the evening. Barbara Anselmi (The Audience, Das Barbecu, tick tick...BOOM) will serve as the musical director for both that evening and for Ten-in-Ten. Monday Nights, New Voices is $12 with a two drink minimum.

Katrina Benefit ...
